Meaning

Brightness; cling to what is right and clear.

Fire over fire: brightness upon brightness. Cling to what is right.

離：利貞，亨，畜牝牛，吉。

The clinging: perseverance furthers; success. Caring for the cow brings good fortune. Cling to what is right, gently.

初九：履錯然，敬之，無咎。
Footprints run crisscross; if one is reverent, no blame.
六二：黃離，元吉。
Yellow light: supreme good fortune.
九三：日昃之離，不鼓缶而歌，則大耋之嗟，凶。
In the light of the setting sun, people either beat the pot and sing or lament old age: misfortune. Accept change with grace.
九四：突如其來如，焚如，死如，棄如。
Suddenly it comes, flames up, dies down, is thrown away. Violence burns out.
六五：出涕沱若，戚嗟若，吉。
Tears in floods, sighing and lamenting: good fortune. Grief brings clarity.
上九：王用出征，有嘉折首，獲匪其醜，無咎。
The king goes forth to punish; best to kill the leaders and take the followers captive. No blame.
