King Zhao of Qin, allied by marriage, invited King Huai of Chu to meet. Qu Yuan warned that Qin was a land of tigers and wolves, but Huai's son urged him to go. Once through Wu Pass, Qin troops cut off his retreat; he was held hostage for land and died in Qin.
