In the Three Kingdoms, Zhou Yu plotted to lure Liu Bei to Wu with a false offer of marriage to Sun Quan's sister and then hold him hostage. Zhuge Liang gave Zhao Yun three brocade bags of instructions; following them, Liu Bei turned the ruse into a real wedding and returned safely to Jingzhou with his bride.
