Balanced
A lot of waiting through winter to bloom again. Things may look bare now, but your roots are intact, spring is near, and you will lead once more. The plum that bloomed twice shows one withering is not the end. "Seems lost but is not": effort that looks wasted is waiting to flower.

The image: the plum blossom ranks first among flowers; take your time, and lateness brings luck. The verdict: an arrow shot into the sky seems lost but is not; when spring comes, the prize is within. (This image had been mistakenly given as Lot 48's; it is corrected against other traditional editions.)
In a folk tale, Mei Liangyu and Chen Xingyuan loved each other but met many obstacles. When a storm stripped the plum blossoms, Mei and the Chens prayed to heaven and the tree bloomed again. Mei later passed the exams and married Xingyuan, giving rise to the phrase "the plum blooms twice".
