The image: a fool whose road is blocked; keep to the old and wait. The verdict: don't gossip, be careful in everything; only an upright heart avoids danger.
King Goujian of Yue endured hardship and, with Fan Li and Wen Zhong, conquered Wu. Afterwards Fan Li retired and wrote to Wen Zhong: when the birds are gone, the bow is put away; when the hare is dead, the hound is cooked. Wen Zhong stayed, and was soon ordered to take his own life.
