In the Three Kingdoms, Cao Cao's huge army faced the allied forces of Sun Quan and Liu Bei at Red Cliffs. Zhou Yu of Wu noticed Cao's ships were chained together; with Huang Gai's feigned surrender and a southeast wind, he launched a fire attack that crushed Cao's fleet and set the stage for three kingdoms.
