From 1405, the eunuch admiral Zheng He led a fleet of over two hundred ships and some twenty-seven thousand men on seven voyages to more than thirty lands across Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean and Arabia, bringing back rare treasures and opening sea routes, a landmark in maritime history.
