The image: keep to the old and go with the times; things are timely and lucky. The verdict: a lovely person in the house sings poems, all joy; fortune and misfortune are in fate's hands.

The story · Su Xiaomei Tests Her Groom

Folk tales tell of Su Xiaomei, Su Dongpo's brilliant sister, who on her wedding night set her groom Qin Shaoyou three tests before he could enter the bridal chamber. He solved two, stalled on the third, and with a quiet hint from Su Dongpo found the answer, a celebrated tale of wit and joy.
