"Guan Ju" is the first poem of the Book of Songs: a gentleman longs for a fine lady, tosses and turns at night, then woos her with zither and drums. Confucius praised it as joyful without excess and sorrowful without hurt; it has long stood as the model for the beginning of marriage.
