New love is sweet while the old one grieves; value the one who shared your hardships.
From a poem of an abandoned wife in the Book of Songs: the newlyweds are sweet while the old wife is bitter. Value the one who shared your hardships and beware of forgetting the old for the new; if you are the one neglected, see clearly and protect yourself.
| Single | Be clear-eyed about someone new; notice how they treated past partners. |
|---|---|
| Dating | Cherish the one who has stood by you; don't be swayed by novelty. |
| Married | If there are signs of a third party, talk calmly and protect yourself. |
From "Gu Feng" in the Book of Songs: a rejected wife says, who says the bitter herb is bitter? Compared to my heart it is sweet; you newlyweds are as close as brothers. "Yan'er xinhun", now a wedding blessing, began as her complaint.
