The image: keeping the old and waiting for the time; staying put is lucky. The verdict: if you can stay, stay; if you can hold it, hold it; don't pursue other things; keep to what you have.
The late Tang poet Luo Yin was famous for his talent, but his pride and satirical verse made him fail the exams ten times. A physiognomist advised him to stop chasing a degree in the capital and serve a regional lord at home. He returned to Qiantang and served Qian Liu of Wuyue, who valued him highly.
