Secret meetings are sweet, but only an open, honest bond will last.
From a folk song about meetings among the mulberries: passionate but secret. There is attraction and warmth, but beware of a relationship that stays hidden. If the love is real, bring it into the open and win the acceptance of family and friends.
| Single | Someone likes you; court openly. |
|---|---|
| Dating | Avoid a hidden relationship; make it open and grounded. |
| Married | Be transparent with each other; don't let secrets erode trust. |
From "Sang Zhong" in the Book of Songs: a man sings of meeting his beloved among the mulberries, being invited to the upper palace, and being seen off by the Qi River. Han scholars read it as satire of secret elopements; later readers saw a love song.
